Choosing the right curtains can enhance the look and feel of the room greatly, which is why it is important to have all the information possible when you are making that purchase.
Before you go to buy your curtains you need to know the size you are looking for.Taking the correct measurements of your window where you will be hanging the curtains is essential.

You will also need to know how you would like your curtains to hang. Will you get an eyelet curtain which you can hang from a pole, or do you prefer tape curtains which need hooks to hang?

Measuring Curtain Width
To get the width that your curtain should be, first you will need to install a curtain pole or curtain track. Your curtain track or pole should be fitted 15cm bove your window and should come out 15-20cm either side of your window.
Measure pole length from end to end. When measuring the length, do not include the finials (decorative pieces at the end). Use a metal measuring tape for accuracy.

Now that you have the length of your curtain pole, you'll be able to use this to work out the width that your curtains will need to be. For a pencil pleat curtain, you will need to multiply the length of the pole or track by 2. For tab top and eyelet curtains, you'll need to multiply the pole length by 1.5 or 2.
Add about 2.5cm or 1 to the final figure to account for an overlap in the middle of your curtains.
Measuring Curtain Length
Before measuring the length of your curtains, you must ask yourself the following questions: where do you want your curtains to fall? Would you like them to fall to the window sill, below the window sill, or to the floor?
If you choose to have your curtains finish above your windowsill, you should measure for them to finish 1cm - 1.5cm above the sill.
If you want your curtains to end below the windowsill, they should finish 15-20cm below the sill. If you want your curtains to be floor length, they will need to end 1cm - 1.5cm above the floor so as not to create a wear effect at the bottom of the curtain.

This style refers to curtains with a row of eyelets, usually made out of metal, which is looped directly onto the curtain pole. This is a very contemporary style of curtain and can only be used on curtain poles.

Our Standard Curtain Measurements
Our ready made curtains are available in an assortment of styles, designs and sizes so you can be sure that you'll find something that will suit your room.
Dimensions on the packet refer to each individual curtain - e.g. 90 x 90 per curtain, meaning both curtains together are 180. The width of both curtains should be two and a half times the width of the track or pole.

How to Hang Your New Curtains
Now that you've gotten the right measurements and purchased your curtains, you'll need to hang them to complete the look of your room. Below is a handy guide on how to hang your curtains depending on the style that you've chosen.
Pencil Pleat
Before you gather your curtains, securely knot together the draw cords at both ends of the heading tape. You now need to fix your curtains at the width they will be when they are closed. To do this, take one end of the curtain, hold the tie cords firmly in one hand whilst gently pushing the curtain heading hand whilst gently pushing the curtain heading evenly along the cord. Draw the curtain to the required width. Check the width is correct by holding each curtain up at the pole or track.

tip 1 Once you are happy with the width, tie the surplus cord string at the outer edge of the curtain. Never cut the cord or tie it too tightly as you will need to undo your curtains before cleaning. Excess cord can then be tucked neatly in behind that tape out of the way. Do this with both curtains.

To insert the hooks, divide the rings or glider hooks evenly to each side of your pole or track. Insert the curtain hooks along the curtain header tape to correspond with the number of rings or glider hooks. Don't forget to count the fixed end stop if you are using a track rail.
tip2Pencil pleat curtain tape has three rows for height setting. If using a track curtain rail, insert the hooks into the lower rows so that the heading covers the track, If using a pole, insert the hooks into the top row of the pockets so that the curtain hangs below the pole.
Next, attach each hook to a glider or ring. Starting from the top gently bring the flat area between each pleat to sit neatly in folds.
Allow for a slight overlap in the middle, approx.2.5cm or 1 inch so that the curtains fully close
