How to clean your BBQ

Summer is rapidly approaching, it's time to move your kitchen outside for another season of back garden burgers and BBQs. The first step is to get your grill ready for action. Even if you wiped down your BBQ before storing it away for the winter, it's important to give it a thorough cleaning prior to grilling. Follow these simple steps to make sure you make the most out of your deep clean.

Step 1 – Start by firing up the grill, close the hood and let it come to full temperature. Wait 30 minutes as the soaring temperatures singe any stuck-on food or grease. Now dip a wire brush into a bucket of warm soapy water and scrub off all the carbon from the grates. Now turn off the gas and disconnect the gas cylinder, and let the grill cool completely.

For charcoal – simply dump the old charcoal coals into a metal container and scrape any caked-on dust with a wire brush.

TOP TIP – make sure the coals are completely cold, if you have any doubt set them in a bucket of cold water.

Step 2 – Once the grill is cool, remove all the grates and clean them using the Oven Mate Just for Racks Cleaning Kit. Remove anything else from the grill that you can take off, such as warming racks and grease trays. Stripping everything from the grill will make it much easier to clean.

Step 3 – Now that the inside of the firebox is exposed, start by using a plastic knife (Link) to scrape off any caked-on debris from the inside. Next with a vacuum, collect any remaining dust. Once the firebox is clean wash it out with a garden hose.

Step 4 – After the grates and trays have been soaking in the solution. Take them out and scrub with a wire brush. This solution is great for removing any stubborn gunk! Rinse everything clean and dry thoroughly with a microfibre cloth – this will avoid anything from rusting.

Step 5 – Now scrub down the outside of the BBQ using a sponge beware of using steel wool or metal sponges as they could scratch the exterior. For any dried-on gunk spray-on HG Oven, Grill & BBQ Cleaner 0.5L and wait 3-5 minutes before wiping clean. After washing down use the micro-fibre towels to dry the grill.

Remember – Look after your BBQ by buying a high quality, fitted cover and store away for the winter months.

Now that your BBQ is summer ready the only thing left to do is head to the butchers get in some burgers and invite over some family and friends.
